About our village The village of Adendro is placed in the western department of Thessaloniki prefecture, amongst the two rivers Axios and Loudias. It abstains a road of 40 kilometres from the city of Thessaloniki. It belongs in the Municipality of Halkidona and the access is obtained either by train, or urban transport. At the years of the Ottoman domination, in the area where the village is today, preexisted a small settlement round the old current church of Saint Athanasios. Its' residents, according to historical testimonies, were Christians Orthodox, Turkish farmers known as "koligi", indigenous and local. Later on, they were added by refugees that came from Thrace. In the beginning of the 20th century the name of the village was Kirtzilar. | |
